What would you do when a disaster hits? Typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural disasters seem to find place in the Philippines. Last year, the Philippines ranked number 1 in the world for disasters.
To help people better understand how to handle emergency situations and to let people become better acquainted with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon), leaders of the Comembo Ward (chapel), Makati East Stake (diocese), held an Open House.
During the open house, visitors learned more about the Church and how they serve the communities in which they live. There was a short tour through the church which showed visitors the different rooms and what learning or activities takes place in those rooms. Visitors also learned that the Church centers on Jesus Christ and His teachings.
Barangay Chairwoman, Jeline “Baby” Olfato, along with her Secretary and Treasurer attended the affair and were impressed with how organized the Church is and expressed her desire to partner with the Church in the future in doing some service projects.
The guest of honor for the event was Congresswoman Abby Binay. She toured the different rooms in the Church and particularly noticed the 72 hour kit prepared inside the Relief Society room. She mentioned that “these kits should be inside every Filipino families’ homes so that they can be better prepared should an emergency occur.”

After the tour, the Young Single Adults of the Church presented, under the direction of Jib Esquejo, a musical entitled, “The Life of Jesus Christ is Music”.
