Elder and Sister Renlund Share Messages of Faith and Kindness to Bacolod Members

Along with Sister Ruth L. Renlund’s emphasis on feasting on the words of Christ, Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve of Apostles invited the members of the Bacolod Philippines North Stake (diocese) to do all that they can to qualify for the blessings of the temple.

Quoting from a hymn, Elder Renlund further counseled the saints to “love one another.” He said, “There needs to be more kindness among all of us. Everyone who is going through this life has challenges.”

In her message to the Latter-day Saints in Bacolod, Sister Renlund shared about how to stay on the covenant path and to avoid the invitations of Satan.

“If we dwell on our anger and dwell on being unhappy with something someone has said, it will take us right off our covenant path,” she said.

The special conference held at the Talisay Stake Center was part of the visit of the apostle and his wife in the Visayan Island. Elder Maximo Saavedra of the Area Seventy with Sister Sue Celle Saavedra accompanied Elder and Sister Renlund and have also addressed the congregation.

On gratitude, Sister Saavedra said, “Oftentimes, we fail to recognize our blessings. We know that gratitude has many faces and takes on many forms.” She reiterated, “A grateful heart is the beginning of greatness.”

Elder Saavedra added in his remarks, “It is a blessing for us to serve in our own little ways…. I’m having a wonderful time serving the Lord because when I serve the Lord, I’m serving my family.”

With regards to the presence of the apostle at their special conference, members expressed their joy for being part of the occasion.

“It’s not every day that we get to see or hear an apostle of the Lord. Having Elder Renlund in the conference was such a blessing,” said Kirck Medalle of Talisay Ward (congregation).

“[Elder Renlund] talked and testified about the sacred name, the divinity, and the atonement of Jesus Christ. Indeed, he is truly a witness of Him. I came out a better man with a desire to live my covenants even more.”

Elder Renlund closed the meeting by inviting the members of the Church to focus more of their lives on Jesus Christ. “As I come to know him,” he said. “I come to know of this great and compassionate love.”

Elder and Sister Renlund were in the Philipines on a 10-day assignment. They have met with missionaries, members and temple workers in areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
