Cortes Ward (Congregation) Holds Open House in Bohol

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, their friends and visitors got the first view of the newly completed meetinghouse of Cortes Ward (congregation) during the open house event on 23 June 2018.

Tagbilaran Philippines Stake (Diocese) President Jerome G. Galotera, together with Cortes Ward Bishop Pablito Brios led the meetinghouse tour for the visitors.

Nestled in the Manga District, Tagbilaran City, Bohol, the newly constructed meetinghouse provided an avenue for visitors to know more about the Church, its history, its programs and its members who were present during the open house.

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests toured around the facilities, at the same time, learned about the different activities of the Church.

Pull-up panels lined the hall, giving visitors a glimpse of the significance of temples and chapels for Church members. Visitors also learned about the various programs the Church, such as the humanitarian projects of LDS Charities, the health code that members practice, programs for the family, the youth and many others.

During the open house, visitors had the opportunity to ask about the basic tenets of the Church. They also had the chance to ask their curious questions such as "Why do you have longer time spent in Sunday services or why do you have many rooms in the chapel?" Members who hosted the open house were able to clarify and answer the questions.

Guests who attended the open house were neighbors and friends of Cortes Ward members. Barangay Captain Leda Saco of Manga District, Tagbilaran City together with her family also visited the Open House.

Like temple open houses, Church leaders conduct meetinghouse or chapel open houses to help visitors and friends learn the importance of chapels, Sabbath day worship and Sunday services to Latter-day Saint members.

Currently, there are 1,220 congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines and 939 meetinghouses operating nationwide.
