Church Donates Wheelchairs in Bacolod

The Latter-day Saint Charities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints  together with the Rotary Club of Cosmopolitan San Juan and Rotary Club of Bacolod South successfully conducted a wheelchair training and distribution project held on March 30 and 31, 2012 at the Bacolod City North Facility.

The event was an emotional experience for the 12 chosen beneficiaries in attendance who were unable to provide their own wheelchairs.

The training is a joint project initiated by Rotary Club San Juan President Baby Tan and Rotary Club Governor for Visayas and Mindanao Dave Villanueva.

LDS Charities missionaries, Elder Hardick and Elder Notarte (two senior Church missionaires) led the two-day training seminar for certified wheelchair technicians to learn how to conduct assessment and measurement of the patients. Only wheelchair technicians trained and certified by LDSC are authorized to assess potential recipients of wheelchairs.

LDS Charities aims to provide appropriate wheelchairs to potentials users  that meet the user's needs and environmental conditions, provide proper fit and postural support, and are safe and durable.

The Latter-day Saint Charities have been providing free wheelchairs in the Philippines since 2006.  Certificates were awarded to the trained wheelchair technicians at the completion of the two-day training. This event was covered by the GMA Bacolod Regional Network.
