LDS Charities Donates Ophthalmology Equipment to DOH ARMM

LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, turned over ophthalmology equipment to the Department of Health of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOH-ARMM) in order to help indigent people in the area needing cataract and other eye surgery needs.

The turnover event was held on 24 July 2018 at the Ramon Chavez Meetinghouse. The DOH-ARMM is responsible for the delivery of basic health care services in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. LDSC hoped to fill in a need through vision care. Its mission is to prevent avoidable blindness and visual impairment through strengthening eye care services to the poor by mentoring vision professionals who work in health care organizations. It also provides equipment, supplies, and organizational support to these eye care professionals and programs.

Dr. Ehsan Paudac, Head of Non-Communicable Disease Cluster of the DOH-ARMM, received the donation on behalf of Dr. Kadil Jojo Sinolinding Jr., DOH-ARMM Secretary.

Representing LDS Charities were Elder Maximo Saavedra Jr., Area Seventy, and President Paul Michael Porpor of the Cagayan de Oro Philippines Stake (Diocese) Presidency. Joining them were Elder and Sister Browne, LDSC senior missionaries. Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, a partner of LDSC on the project, was represented by Ms. Melody Ledesma.

The donated items included 1 unit Prescotts Featherlite Portable Operating Microscope with Foot Pedal and 1 unit Keeler Spectra Iris Portable Indirect Ophthalmoscope with Charger and Battery Pack. The value of the equipment was more than $ 11,000.00 (dollars).
