Ascent Scholarship Program

A private donor has funded a special scholarship for high school students and recent high school graduates who are faithful Filipino members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The potential student needs to pass the Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET) and desires to pursue a course of study at the Ateneo de Manila University (Katipunan Campus) in Math, Computer Science, Physics or Data Science. This program is called the Ascent Scholarship.

Interested high school seniors who will take and pass the ACET will be reimbursed for the cost of the examination. The scholarship will pay full tuition. It will also pay for books, a laptop, housing, and living expenses as needed.

The ACET will be held on January 19 at the Ateneo de Manila University and Provincial Testing Centers. Students can download the forms at https://acet.ateneo.edu/apply/. Deadline of submission will be on January 10. Payment for the application forms can be made at the Ateneo Cashier or through Metrobank.

To be eligible for an Ascent scholarship, students will need to:

·       Qualify for admission and be accepted by the Ateneo de Manila University

·       Be admitted to one of the degree programs: BS in Physics, BS in Computer Science, BS in Applied Mathematics (Honors Courses). These should be the courses indicated on the application form.

·       Receive an ecclesiastical endorsement from their bishop this year and in each subsequent year of study; eligibility to retain scholarship is dependent on renewal of the ecclesiastical endorsement for each year of study

·       Live by an honor code and dress and grooming standards that are comparable to those used by Brigham Young University

·       Commit to and serve a full-time mission following their first year of school (for men) and second year of school (for women)

·       Remain in good academic standing as a student in the years of study

·       Participate in periodic training and networking events sponsored or required by the Ascent Scholarship Program

·       Meet with a member of the Ascent Scholarship Committee at least twice a year to provide an accounting and overview of their experience

·       Commit to paying back the scholarship funds they received after graduation and job placement

·       Agree to “pay it forward” by providing mentoring assistance and networking opportunities to future Ascent scholars
